The American college community, as much as any forum in our culture, has been the setting where matters of diversity are discussed openly and thoroughly. Higher education is where many underrepresented and underserved find their voice. Such is the case with the LGBTQA community, the identity which today symbolizes the population not included in the sexual identity majority.

The campus is one where “inclusion” is most broadly defined, a learning environment welcoming of the representatives of diversity of sexuality and gender identity.  At the same time higher education has had to address the cultural, social and political challenges that the assurance of such inclusion has brought to bear.
